New Sweet Purple Basil, 25g Ingredients Brands|Middle Eastern Ingredients

Sweet purple basil is also known as reyhan or Persian basil. It’s a popular ingredient in Turkish and Iranian cuisine. The dried herb has a bright, fresh flavour with notes of citrus and anise.

Sweet basil is used in many Middle Eastern recipes. It’s used to flavour fish dishes, rice pilafs and stews. The earthy flavour works well in soups and creamy dips. Try adding a pinch to a rich tomato sauce for koftes and kebabs.

In Iran, sweet purple basil is added to fresh herb salads. These fragrant salads are a traditional accompaniment for grilled meat.

Add sweet basil to a tomato salad or dips made with yoghurt and labneh. A squeeze of lemon is a great match for the herb’s verdant flavour. Serve your dip with pita or flatbreads brushed with melted butter. You can sprinkle it over pizza and lahmacun, too.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
